Study Background

Relentless Health is performing a study to measure levels of specific PFAS (per and polyfluoroalkyl substances) in human blood and to determine levels in a normal population. Participation is entirely voluntary.

What the study is for

We are taking samples of blood from adults across the US using a finger stick and microsampler device that is intended for research use only (RUO). We will analyze the samples to measure the normal levels of specific PFAS compounds found in whole blood. This will allow us to set reference ranges for those PFAS compounds in tests we are developing. We are also studying the stability of the samples in storage.

Who can take part?

We will collect samples from up to 1,000 participants across multiple locations. If you agree to participate, you will be required to donate a finger stick blood sample.

How we collect the data

If you are accepted into the study, you will be asked to provide your home address so we can mail you a collection kit. This kit contains everything you need to collect a sample by yourself and mail it back to our lab. The test involves using a small lancet device to prick the end of one finger before collecting some blood using the microsampler device. For those living near Reno, Nevada, you have the option of visiting our lab for this study. At the lab you will be asked to confirm your identity and details. You will then be shown how to take the test by using a small lancet device to prick one finger before collecting some blood using the microsampler device. You may take the sample yourself or you can request assistance from a laboratory specialist. This should take around 15 minutes to complete and only requires one visit.

Whether you participate from home or at our lab, all data are stored securely and will be used only for this specific research study.

  • be aged 18 or older

  • be willing and able to follow instructions during the study
